In Egypt’s Sahara Desert lies the “Valley of the Whales,” a remarkable fossil graveyard where massive whale skeletons emerge from the sand. Paleontologists have recently uncovered a new species of ancient whale, dating back 43 million years. This incredible predator possessed four legs, suggesting it could walk as well as swim, offering new insights into the evolutionary journey of mammals as they transitioned from land to sea and ultimately became the largest creatures on Earth. Scientists continue their search for further clues about this fascinating process.
