At Tammaru farm three youths—boy Margus and orphan sisters Mari and Tiina—grow up together. Margus’ parents favor a union with Mari, whom they deem suitable, while Tiina, passionate and from a family stained by her mother’s execution for witchcraft, is shunned. Convinced Tiina has bewitched Margus, Mari publicly brands her stepsister a werewolf.
