Eugenio, a 14‑year‑old, is taken from his grandparents’ home outside Rome to his father Giancarlo’s apartment in the city by Giancarlo’s friend, known as “Moustache.” When Eugenio annoys Moustache, he threatens to abandon him in the countryside and actually does so. Giancarlo discovers this and retrieves Eugenio, but the boy is now lost. The film gradually reveals Eugenio’s strained relationship with his family and the deep sense of being unwanted that drives his behavior.
