K. Madasamy alias Ajay, a young man from Theni, heads to Chennai with a simple plan: start a job and build a future in the big city. At the same time, Anjali Rajamohan, a photographer from London, arrives in the same city to document South Indian culture on camera. Fate pushes them toward trouble when they cross paths with a crafty real estate broker, Narayanan, who rents out vacant houses without ever informing the owners. Believing they’ve found a place, Ajay and Anjali each hand over rent money and end up signing for the same house, a mix-up that leaves them stuck sharing a roof while they hunt for Narayanan.
With no other options, the two decide to stick together until they can sort out the housing issue. Laughter, arguments, and a steady stream of petty squabbles fill their days, yet underneath the friction, a quiet attraction begins to bloom. Ajay finds himself drawn to Anjali, but he keeps his feelings tucked away, unsure of how to bridge the distance between affection and pride. Just as Ajay and Anjali are about to speak truth to each other, Narayanan phones in with new tenants and a cheeky offer of a cut of the deal, triggering a fatal misinterpretation. Anjali assumes Ajay is part of Narayanan’s plot, and she lashes out in anger, leaving the wedding hall with a sense of unfinished business and heartbreak.
Three months drift by before Anjali returns to London and triumphs in a photography contest. A friend named Deepak reveals that Narayanan told him everything from the start and that Ajay is innocent. This revelation rekindles her belief in their love, and Deepak’s honesty helps her see that her willingness to visit Theni and even pose as Ajay’s wife while engaged to Deepak proves the depth of her feelings for him. Reinvigorated, Anjali returns to Chennai to find Ajay, only to discover his absence at first.
