Ching Fai was once a boxing champion, but his glory faded as financial troubles dragged him into trouble with the Triads. He ends up in prison for Triad involvement and, after release, works as a taxi driver trying to survive. His past haunts him as he struggles to make ends meet.

Triad loan sharks torch his taxi and close in on him for money he owes, forcing him to flee. He makes a risky escape to Macau to avoid their pursuit and start a new chapter. The move sets the stage for a fresh start away from his old criminal ties.

In Macau, an old friend offers him a job as an assistant in a gym, giving him a chance to rebuild his life. He moves into a new routine centered around training and mentorship. This job marks the first step away from his past.

Fai rents a room with Peidan, a feisty girl who cares for her psychologically unstable mother after her son's drowning. Their fragile household becomes a growing personal stake for Fai as he becomes part of their daily life. Peidan's mother's condition foreshadows the challenges they will face together.

At the gym, Fai meets Lin Siqi, a determined young man who wants to learn MMA to enter the Golden Rumble tournament. He agrees to take Lin under his wing and coach him through the build-up. This mentorship marks a new purpose for Fai.

Over the ensuing months, Fai puts Lin through a strict training regimen while building a bond with Peidan and her mother. The gym becomes a refuge where trust grows and Lin's dream edges closer to reality. Fai's own resolve hardens as he confronts his past.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, loan sharks attack Fai and Peidan's family; Fai defends them, but Peidan is injured. Social services are alerted when Peidan's mother is deemed unable to care for a child. Peidan's father returns to take custody, further complicating Peidan's life.

Lin Siqi faces his toughest opponent and is defeated, suffering injuries to his arm and neck. The loss shakes his confidence but fuels his resolve to finish the tournament. The setback heightens the stakes for Fai as he contemplates his own future.

Believing he has wasted twenty years, Fai decides to enter the Golden Rumble himself and trains intensely to reach the finals. He commits to a final push that could change everything.

In a brutal final, Fai emerges victorious in the Golden Rumble. He wins by leveraging a moment of weakness and fighting through a painful dislocated right shoulder.

Peidan's father meets Fai and confirms that Peidan will live with him if Fai wins. After Fai's victory, he pays off his loans and makes a final farewell to Peidan, while continuing to visit her mother.

Fai later meets a now-recovered Lin, and the two joke about the injuries they've endured in the ring. The film closes on a note of friendship and resilience as they look toward the future.
