Rembrandt Macy, a maverick detective, investigates a homicide where the only clue is a woman's hand found in a pond. As investigators ID the victim, Macy probes her past through roommate Nikki. He uncovers corrupt City Hall ties, an Asian drug‑running gang, and the scandalous affairs of a powerful official, then learns Nikki is far from innocent.
