After three years on the run, Jim Guthrie returns with a distinctive rope‑burn scar on his neck. A flashback reveals he was falsely accused of murder and narrowly escaped a lynch mob just before being hanged. Determined to end his flight, he goes back to find the real killer, but the sheriff gives him only three hours to solve the case.
