The documentary explores the surprising discovery that many works attributed to Norval Morrisseau, the first Indigenous Canadian artist to achieve widespread recognition, were actually forgeries. When musician Kevin Hearn realized his prized painting was a fake, he initiated a lawsuit that uncovered a widespread and unchecked industry of counterfeit Morrisseau artworks. The film examines the motivations behind this deception, revealing a system fueled by greed, exploitation, racism, and a general lack of oversight within the art world.
