Bene, an exhausted engineer weary of bureaucratic conflicts and a marriage that has gone off the rails, requests a transfer to the countryside. In the arid sands of Nagyalföld, the Great Hungarian Plain, water scarcity is the region’s direst crisis. The indefatigable director of the local state farm pleads for Bene’s expertise, yet the disillusioned man turns down the appeal.
