A heart‑broken author, stuck without inspiration for his next novel, teams up with his publisher friend to devise a scheme: seduce a young woman, document the affair in a diary, then discard her and turn the story into a book, hoping the manuscript will revive his career. As he carries out the plan, he unexpectedly falls genuinely in love, forcing him to confront the morality of his plot and complicating both his personal and professional crises.
