An alien entity known as the Mangler prowls Los Angeles after dark, hunting and mutilating strangers. A TV reporter, the grieving father of one victim, and a determined police detective pursue the killer, but their investigations stall until the enigmatic psychic DeRenzy, who alone understands the creature’s nature, reveals how to stop it.
