Set in 415 AD, five years after the Visigoths' sack of Rome, it follows the true story of Claudio Rutilio Namaziano, the last great pagan poet of a waning Roman Empire. Disillusioned by Christianity's dominance, blamed for Rome's decline, and haunted by a broken romance, Claudio sails to his native Gaul to raise troops and restore its former glory.
