In 1919, a war hero finds himself held captive within an abandoned barracks in a small town sweltering under the summer heat. A loyal, but scruffy, dog relentlessly barks nearby. In the countryside, a bright and hopeful young woman works the land, patiently waiting. A judge, deeply affected by the war and struggling with his own moral compass, arrives to resolve a sensitive and secretive case.
