Maria, a university student, watches her brother Dieter being taken to prison after a conviction for sedition against the government. Amid the turmoil she begins an affair with Paul, the judge who sentenced Dieter. Their secret relationship forces Maria to confront both her love for Paul and the injustice inflicted on her family, leading to a tense showdown.
