The Naked Gun

A team of criminals led by Sig Gustafson robs a bank, with Gustafson breaking open a safety deposit box and stealing a mysterious item called the P.L.O.T. Device. During the heist, a young girl confronts the robbers, revealing herself as Detective Frank Drebin Jr, and unexpectedly takes down the criminals in absurd ways while disguised as a Girl Scout. The scene establishes the criminal activity and introduces the key stolen device central to the plot.

Frank Drebin Jr, a member of Police Squad, faces disciplinary issues for going overboard with his tactics, upsetting the department's rules on use of force and video recordings. He visits a memorial to his late father, Frank Drebin, hoping for a sign or blessing, highlighting his ongoing struggles to live up to his father's legacy. This sets up Frank’s character background and his relations within the police department.

Frank and Captain Ed Hocken Jr investigate a suspected suicide involving Simon Davenport, who crashed his car off a cliff. Frank finds a matchbook with a tiger symbol, hinting at possible foul play, while Ed mentions Simon’s sister, Beth Davenport, to whom Frank immediately feels attracted. The scene introduces the murder investigation and key characters involved.

Frank meets Beth Davenport at her brother Simon’s funeral, and she expresses concerns about his death possibly being targeted. She suspects EdenTech, a corporation run by Richard Cane, might be involved. Frank visits EdenTech to investigate, where Cane shows him some inventions and dismisses Simon’s death as a suicide, hinting at corporate corruption.

Frank reviews security footage at a bank, revealing the bank robber’s interest in the P.L.O.T. Device and linking Simon Davenport to the device. Meanwhile, Frank and Ed interrogate a bank robber, who confirms that the stolen item is what the robbers were seeking, positioning the device at the center of the conspiracy. Detective Barnes joins the investigation as more details emerge.

Cane discusses his plan called 'Project Inferno' with other billionaires, revealing the P.L.O.T. Device can induce violence through sound. Frank infiltrates the Bengal club to gather intel, where he finds Simon’s connection to a reporter and uncovers more about the device’s capabilities and Cane’s intentions for mass chaos and a new world order.

While investigating, Frank discovers evidence that suggests Simon was murdered. He finds Simon’s body at O’Reilly’s apartment and, in a chaotic attempt to cover up, slices off the reporter’s head. Cane’s hacking tries to kill Frank, but he escapes in a smart car, which Cane hacks to pursue him, leading to a high-tech chase scene.

Frank’s reckless actions result in suspension from the police force for two weeks. At Beth’s home, they bond over dinner and shared feelings, as they spend a romantic weekend together at a snowy cabin, where they revive a snowman in a dark but comedic ritual, only to have it turn murderous until Beth destroys it.

Frank investigates O’Reilly’s murder and uncovers evidence pointing to his being framed. During a confrontation, Frank tricks Gustafson into confessing Cane’s plan—an attack set for New Year’s Eve involving the P.L.O.T. Device at a secret location. This leads to a staged setup where Frank and others prepare for the climactic showdown.

At a New Year’s Eve event, Cane attempts to activate the P.L.O.T. Device hidden inside falling balls, causing chaos as civilians turn violent. Frank fights off civilians and chases Cane, who escapes using rocket gloves. Frank’s vision of his father as an owl helps him catch Cane before the device can cause widespread destruction.

Cane is finally arrested after his plan is foiled and the device is deactivated. Frank rescues Beth and convinces her to use the device to revert everyone to normal. The police squad is reinstated, and Frank is cleared of suspicion, while enjoying a humorous farewell during the credits scene, breaking the fourth wall with the audience.
