Claude, now 21, is satisfied with his life, his girlfriend Tania, and his dream of becoming an actor. After receiving a draft notice, a friend promises that Parisian connections can exempt him from service. When those contacts fall through, Claude is sent to basic training outside Paris, then shipped to Morocco and Algeria. The overseas posting is uneventful militarily, and he returns home carrying only a few unpleasant memories of army life.
