Under Julien Duvivier’s deft direction, this macabre comedy follows a clarinet player whose absent wife leaves him free to be coaxed by a friend into meeting a call girl. He arrives too late to discover a murder, and a rain‑coated figure seen fleeing the scene makes him the prime suspect. To clear his name before it is publicly aired—especially before his wife returns—he must identify the real killer.
