In October 1918, during World War I, more than 500 men of the 77th Infantry Division—recruited in New York City and trained at Camp Yaphank—are dispatched to France to assault the German positions in the Argonne forest. Their mission is to break through the entrenched defenses and aid the Allied offensive.
