Medieval times, a struggling juggler becomes an ascetic, wearing a hair shirt, but only draws fellow ascetics. Desperate, he joins a monastery where monks honor Our Lady with cooking, painting, sculpture and other crafts. He tries to help but fails. At a festival for Lady, each monk offers his gift while the juggler has none, so he juggles all night.
