This early adaptation strays from Conan Doyle’s original, omitting Watson and even featuring two Holmes. The villain Stapleton threatens Holmes’s client Lord Henry and fiancée Laura Lyons while posing as Holmes. Secret passages, hand‑bombs and mechanical gimmicks give the story a serial‑style feel rather than a classic detective tale.
