In a raging desert battle between Basra and Baghdad, Basran is fatally wounded. Before dying, he passes his medallion to Harun and urges him to end the senseless killings. The moment sets Harun on a dangerous quest that will define his fate.

Harun travels to Baghdad and meets shopkeeper Barcus, who offers any item for ten dinars. He discovers a magical golden sword hidden under a pile of rags, and learns its powers only activate when he wields it. Barcus cautions him to decipher the blade's inscriptions before fully understanding its magic.

Vizier Jafar pressures the Caliph to confront Basra, aiming to undermine the Caliph's reputation. The Caliph, meanwhile, worries about his rebellious daughter Khairuzan, and Jafar suggests she be married to his son Hadi as a means to tame her. The scheming sets Baghdad on a collision course with ambition and romance.

Khairuzan disguises herself as a boy and escapes the palace, even stealing Harun's horse in the process. She is chased by Hadi and Harun, and a fierce duel ensues. Harun wins and discovers that he is effectively invincible whenever he wields the golden sword.

Harun brings Khairuzan to the city and Barcus reveals the sword's first inscription promising that whoever unsheathes the blade will gain the throne. Harun then realizes Khairuzan is a girl in disguise. This revelation shifts their alliance toward mutual protection and complicated romance.

Harun protects Khairuzan when a guard questions them, and the pair are thrown into a dungeon. In the dim cell, their feelings deepen as they share a kiss, solidifying a dangerous bond. The romance complicates their sense of duty to their competing goals.

In a desperate confrontation, Jafar slices the magical sword into a stone pillar, where it becomes lodged. The guards kill the Caliph, and Harun and Khairuzan escape, faking their own deaths to avoid immediate pursuit. The brittle balance of power teeters on the edge of a larger awakening.

Jafar and Hadi discover they cannot pull the sword from the pillar, so they summon men from across Baghdad to help. Meanwhile Khairuzan rallies the townspeople, and Harun and Barcus sneak back into the palace to reclaim their fate. The city becomes a powder keg of competing loyalties.

Khairuzan gathers the people as Harun and Barcus slip back inside the palace. Harun fights the guards, and Khairuzan storms the palace with her supporters. Harun finally wrests the sword from the stone, causing the pillar to collapse onto Jafar and Hadi in a dramatic turn of fate.

With the threat neutralized, Khairuzan bestows upon Harun the title Al-Rhashid, the righteous. The pair share a kiss, sealing their partnership in love and leadership. The story closes on a note of renewed peace and a new order for Baghdad.
