On Halloween, Fat Albert and the Junkyard Gang set out for trick‑or‑treating but are turned away by a store clerk when they try on costumes. Undeterred, they fashion homemade outfits and head to the movies, where they attempt to frighten the cranky Searchlight Johnson. Their night continues with mischievous encounters with Mudfoot Brown and the kindly old lady Bickwell. After being thrown out of the theater and losing most of their candy to Mudfoot, the gang discovers that Bickwell actually offers the best treats in town, learning a lesson about kindness and perseverance.
