Olive Oyl’s farm needs a farmhand, so Popeye and Bluto compete for the job. Their tasks—drawing water, picking apples, shoeing a horse and gathering eggs—lead Popeye to give a hen spinach, producing a mountain of eggs that land on Bluto. After Bluto drops an anvil on Popeye and chases Olive, a chicken feeds Popeye spinach, allowing him to send Bluto into a pigpen where the pigs ignore him.
