In a world that blends myth with modern superstition, the film opens by revisiting ancient lore: Ahalya, described as the most beautiful woman in the universe, was created by Brahma; a voiceover adds that jinns have long haunted human life, sometimes tormenting women in the name of desire. The story then shifts to present-day Hyderabad, where a circle of friends sits around, trading chilling tales as the city hums around them.
Among the storytellers, Ajay recounts the life of Balachandran, a man deeply scarred by his mother’s elopement and shaped by a stubborn distrust of women. Under his father’s pressure, he enters marriage with Alagini, and that union begins to soften him, turning him into a more jovial partner who treats his female employees with more respect. Yet an ancient force lurks nearby: a Jinn that dwells in the firecracker factory owned by Bala’s family, a malevolent presence that soon exerts control over him and fractures the trust he has built.
The Jinn overhears the women at the factory speaking about Alagini’s beauty and begins silently pulling Bala toward it. Nightmares plague Bala, and when Alagini comes to comfort him, the Jinn plants seeds of manipulation. It whispers a dangerous bargain: Bala’s father doubts his ability to lead the business, but if Bala offers the Jinn a few drops of Alagini’s blood, the Jinn will grant wealth and success. Tempted yet cautious, Bala hesitates, but ultimately yields. The Jinn licks the blood and announces it will leave—yet promises to return whenever Bala calls.
With its first grant, Bala’s wealth surges and the family builds a new factory. The triumph, however, quickly spirals into greed. Bala succumbs to the lure of more riches and summons the Jinn again, but this time the bargain changes: the Jinn demands to mate with Alagini. Bala refuses, tries to drive the entity away, and learns that the Jinn cannot be dismissed once summoned. It warns that it can both elevate and annihilate him.
A new, cruel twist arrives when a government ban on firecrackers devastates Bala’s business. He moves his stock and equipment into the new factory, only for a torrential rain to wash it all away, exposing the factory’s weak foundations. In a desperate bid to recover, Bala seeks the Jinn’s help again. The Jinn presses harder, insisting on mating with Alagini, and Bala again refuses. It mocks him, suggesting Alagini has been unfaithful and urges him to confront a man named Kailash. Alagini denies any impropriety with Kailash—she says Kailash was a childhood friend who never intended to marry her.
Ashamed of his own doubt, Bala confronts the Jinn once more and realizes how far the manipulation has dragged him. The Jinn tempts him with a vision of Alagini with Kailash, pushing Bala toward despair. Seeking guidance, Bala turns to his father, who echoes a dark wisdom born of a similar history. The elder tells him to yield to the Jinn’s will, implying that this is a cycle Bala cannot escape. Convinced by this grim perspective, Bala concludes that Alagini must be sacrificed to appease the sinister force.
For a ritual puja at the factory, Bala dresses Alagini as a newlywed bride, a move that the Jinn uses to seal its claim. When they arrive, the Jinn thanks Bala for completing the demanded act and consumes Alagini in flames. Bala accuses his wife of deceit, but she speaks the truth: the memory of their first night, stained with blood, proves her virginity, and she reveals that she is pregnant. Crushed and enraged, Bala pleads with the Jinn, but it withdraws with Alagini, leaving him a shattered man.
Returning home, Bala faces his father and asks about the deal. Silence falls, and in a final, tragic choice, Bala smothers his father with a pillow and then takes his own life in the very factory where his dream buckled under superstition and fear.
Ajay finishes the story, and the friends realize they are hearing it in the same physical space where Bala and Alagini died. A chill passes over the group as the screen flashes to the image of a burning Alagini, a haunting reminder of the price paid for unchecked power and possessive love.
The tale unfolds with a slow-burning tension and a stark moral core: legends can bleed into the present, and the line between protection and domination can blur when fear, greed, and deception collide. The film uses its Hyderabad setting to weave a claustrophobic atmosphere where ancient whispers become present-day consequences, leaving viewers with a lingering sense of dread about the costs of mistrust, manipulation, and passion.
