In the final act the cursed twin Sumala reawakens, possessing her sister Kumala and turning the child into a vessel of the Devil’s vengeance. When the family’s desperate attempts to contain her fail, Sumala‑possessed Kumala murders Soedjiman’s right‑hand man and then attacks her mother, Lastri, who begs for mercy but is slashed as the spirit refuses to be released. Soedjiman arrives too late; his wife collapses, and he is forced to flee as the horror spreads through the house.
Desperate to end the possession, Soedjiman drags the unconscious Kumala into the fields, intending either to bring her to a shaman or to kill her. He cannot bring himself to stab his own daughter, so he covers her head with a sack. At that moment Sumala taunts him, condemning his cruelty and his own disabled past, and then the Devil’s child finishes him off—his body is disemboweled and hung on a pole, a grim echo of how he once chained Kumala.
The next morning the villagers find Soedjiman’s corpse in the cornfield and discover the shaman, Grandpa Kusno, dead in his own room, likely killed to prevent any ritual that might free Kumala. With both parents dead and the shaman gone, the curse remains unbroken. Aunt Sum, the only one who ever cared for Kumala, returns for the funeral, only to learn that Sumala’s spirit has vanished into the night‑time fields. Rumors spread that the entity still roams the cornfields, preying on anyone who wanders after dark; later sightings of her devouring flesh confirm that the legend endures.
Thus the film closes on an unsettling note: the evil twin is never truly vanquished, and the cursed land of Semarang continues to be haunted by Sumala’s vengeful presence, a reminder of the price paid for the desperate pact with the Devil.
