Gene Wilder returns in a comedy where two sets of identical twins are mistakenly swapped at birth. Aristocratic brothers Phillipe and Pierre DeSisi grow up haughty and privileged, while their poorer counterparts Charles and Claude Coupé are raised as dim‑witted commoners. As the French Revolution looms, both pairs become tangled in royal scheming and palace intrigue, leading to a cascade of mistaken identities and far‑cical mishaps.
