Set against the rise of the AIDS crisis in 1987, the Swedish government tasked Roy Andersson with creating an educational short. In roughly twenty deliberately monotone vignettes, Andersson exposes how the medical establishment’s research on HIV and AIDS often adopted dehumanizing, racist attitudes, highlighting the stark disconnect between scientific inquiry and compassionate care.
