Set against São Paulo’s industrial boom, the film follows Carlos, a middle‑class young man who begins his career at a large corporation just as foreign car manufacturers are entering Brazil. He soon moves to an auto‑parts plant, rises to manager, and balances a hard‑working family life, yet feels increasingly empty. With no clear path to change his stagnant situation, his only recourse becomes a desperate escape.
