The musical orb was one of Joe Petto's booby-trapped toys. When Tom activated it by pressing a button, the Santa-shaped orb tightened retractable cords around him. As Tom struggled to free himself, he slipped and fell onto a fireplace poker, impaling himself. The toy was designed to trap and kill whoever activated it.

Derek became mute due to the traumatic psychological impact of witnessing his father's death. The horror of watching Tom die in such a violent manner rendered the young boy psychologically unable to speak, a condition known as selective mutism triggered by extreme stress.

Larry the Larvae was another one of Joe Petto's deadly creations. When Harold, Noah's landlord, accepted the toy as payment for late rent, the larva crawled into Harold's mouth while he was driving home. It then burst out through his eye, killing him instantly. The toy was designed to attack anyone who ingested or came too close to it.

The roller skates that Derek discarded were another of Joe Petto's lethal creations. Hidden rockets inside the skates activated when Lonnie used them, propelling him out of control into the street where he was struck by a car. The skates were designed to cause accidents and harm anyone who used them.

The flickering spark in one of Joe's partially assembled robots at the end implies that the danger is not entirely over. It suggests that more of Joe's creations may still be active or that the threat of the deadly toys continues, leaving the protagonists' survival uncertain and hinting at potential future danger.
