Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker

Late one night in December, Derek discovers a Christmas present on the porch. His father Tom opens it and activates a Santa-shaped musical orb, which tightens its cords around him. He struggles, slips onto a fireplace poker, and dies; Sarah discovers his impaled body moments later.

Sarah takes Derek to Joe Petto's toy store, hoping to find something cheerful for him. Derek, who is mute, rejects every toy shown to him. Joe yells at Pino, blaming him for the shop's troubles.

Outside the store, Pino bumps into Noah Adams, who buys some toys before leaving. Later at his home, Noah begins taking the toys apart to inspect their mechanics. Harold, Noah's landlord, dies when Larry the Larvae crawls into his mouth and bursts out his eye.

The next day, Derek finds another gift on the porch. Sarah takes him to a mall, where the Santa is played by Noah, signaling a disturbing twist. Derek remains reluctant and refuses to open the present.

Pino sneaks into their house, but Sarah and Derek return earlier than expected due to Noah's odd behavior. Pino flees the scene. Sarah later confronts Joe about Pino's intrusion.

Sarah is visited by her friend Kim, and Derek sneaks outside to throw the present in a garbage. Kim's adopted son Lonnie finds the discarded gift and discovers roller skates inside.

Lonnie uses the roller skates and rockets hidden inside cause him to lose control. He is hit by a car and left hospitalized as the rockets trigger chaos.

In a drunken rage, Joe begins beating Pino and accidentally kills him by knocking him down stairs. The murder underscores Joe's obsession with replacing his dead son through brutal, malfunctioning toys.

Noah confronts Sarah in a parking garage and reveals that he is her former lover and Derek's biological father. The two reconcile and prepare to face Joe together.

At Sarah's house, Meridith and her boyfriend Buck are attacked by a horde of toys. Sarah and Noah arrive to find Meridith bloodied and Buck dead, and Joe has abducted Derek to the toy store.

Noah tells Sarah about Joe's past — he was arrested years earlier for booby-trapping toys after his wife died. They rush to the toy store to stop him and rescue Derek.

Joe attacks Noah with a remote-controlled plane and an acid-squirting water pistol, knocking him out. Sarah unmasks Joe and learns he wears a mechanical face, while Pino explains his motive to replace a dead son and win Sarah's affection.

Pino attempts to stab Derek from a large sack, but Noah distracts him long enough for Sarah to stab Pino's head with a screwdriver. Pino fights back, and Sarah chops him with an axe; he dies. As they escape, one of Joe's robots flickers its eyes ominously.
