After being blinded in a horse riding accident, Sarah travels to her uncle George Rexton's stately home seeking refuge. The quiet visit hints at the danger looming in her family. This event sets the stage for the deadly night to come.

Back at the relatives’ home, a psychotic killer massacres three family members and shoots Barker the gardener. The violence unfolds during a night when Sarah is out on a date, and the estate becomes a crime scene. The murder foreshadows the danger that will later engulf Sarah.

Despite the danger at home, Sarah goes out on a date with her boyfriend Steve Reding. The evening provides a contrast to the violence back at the estate. She remains unaware that a killer is closing in on her family.

Sarah returns from her date and spends the night in the stately house, oblivious to the corpses scattered through the estate. She remains unaware of the danger that just occurred and that the killer may return. The house becomes a tense waiting ground for the killer’s next move.

Barker, the gardener, survives long enough to tell Sarah what happened and that the killer is coming back for a bracelet. He directs her to where the bracelet can be found before dying from his injuries. His revelation drives Sarah to start piecing together the killer’s identity.

Sarah finds an engraved name on the bracelet, which she correctly infers belongs to the killer. The bracelet becomes a crucial clue linking back to the murderer and setting up the confrontation to come. The sense of pursuit and danger intensifies as she searches for the bracelet’s owner.

The killer returns to search for the lost bracelet, but his face is mostly hidden from the audience. The film reveals him only from the knees down, wearing distinctive leather boots as he moves.

Sarah flees through the woods on horseback and finds refuge with a family of gypsies. The family keeps her safe and gradually begins to piece together what happened. She shows them the bracelet, hoping they can help identify the killer.

Back at the gypsy camp, the family examines the bracelet and reads the engraved name as Jack. Tom, the head of the family, concludes that Jack, who was dating Sandy—the murdered cousin—must be the killer. A web of suspicions starts to form among the gypsies.

To protect Jack, Tom pretends to take Sarah to the police but instead locks her in a secluded shed. His plan is to herd the family together and flee the area, hoping to cover up the crime. Sarah's courage gives her hope as she plots an escape.

Sarah breaks free from the shed and is found by Steve as he searches for her. She recounts everything she has learned, prompting Steve to organize a pursuit of the killer. Steve and his men begin a search, initially suspecting the killer might be a gypsy.

Steve learns the killer’s real name and hurries to catch him. It turns out Jacko, one of Steve's workers left to guard Sarah, is the murderer. In a tense moment, Jacko attempts to drown Sarah in the bath, but Steve bursts in just in time to save her.
