Set in a bleak Finland on the brink of EU membership, the country has become a peripheral backwater plagued by energy shortages and civil wars. A divorced university professor flees the city for his summer cottage, and aids a delirious young woman he finds roadside. He soon falls for her, only to learn she is a wanted deserter from a guerrilla force.
