Xiao Mai is adopted by middle-class parents and nurtures a lifelong dream of becoming an heiress. Her dream seems to have a chance at realization when she learns she has a biological connection to a prestigious aristocratic lineage. This realization begins to set her on a path toward the Huangfu clan.

Xiao Mai learns that her biological grandfather, Huangfu Xiong, is the head of the Huangfu aristocratic family. This revelation ties her fate to a powerful lineage and raises questions about her place in the succession. The family suddenly treats her as a potential heiress rather than an outsider.

Within the Huangfu clan, four candidates contend to become Emp's successor. Nan Feng Jin is among them and resents the idea that his future could be shaped by an arranged engagement with Xiao Mai. Tensions rise as ambition, romance, and duty collide.

Jin tries to be a normal salesperson and suppress his evolving feelings for Xiao Mai. Love eventually overcomes his resolve, complicating any plan to keep their relationship secret. They fear exposure could seal Xiao Mai's engagement and Jin's forced role as successor.

A new 'Huangfu Shan' appears, bearing a matching birthmark and a ring with an encrypted birthdate. Gong Mo Li is presented as the real Huangfu Shan, sowing doubt about Xiao Mai's claim. The two share similar interests and birthdates, creating a dangerous plot twist.

Xiao Mai is expelled from the household and reassigned to maid duties. Gong Mo Li pretends to be Huangfu Shan and pursues Jin, while Emp funds and orchestrates the deception. Xiao Mai begins to uncover the web of intrigue with the help of Gong Mo Li and Butler Yi.

The four allies confront Emp, but he remains elusive and continues to control events with Butler Yi's help. He refuses to relinquish power and undermines their attempts at truth. Eventually, he lets them start from scratch and ejects them from the house.

In the outside world, Jin cannot find steady work due to Emp's influence and takes a job as a construction worker. Cai and Gong Mo Li sell possessions to a pawnshop and fritter away money on fruitless purchases. After hardship, they all return to the Huangfu House.

Emp's illness worsens in secret, known only to Butler Yi. Xiao Mai urges Yi to press for surgery, arguing that stubbornness could cost Emp his life. The operation is performed and, though successful, Emp remains unconscious after the procedure.

With Emp unconscious, the co-owners fear losing control of the company and pressure Xiao Mai to prove herself. She takes the same exams as the other four heirs, but she fails to pass them. The bedrock of the succession is shaken until Emp finally awakens.

Emp awakens and declares that Xiao Mai will be his successor, making her both heiress and head of the family. Jin remains an office worker, while Xiao Mai steps into leadership. The announcement marks a decisive turn in the family’s future.

Xiao Mai is slated to attend a three-year course in America to learn how to run Huangfu Corp. Jin waits, chasing new business and hopeful contracts. As Xiao Mai approaches the gate at the airport, Jin finally appears and calls her name. They share a kiss as she leaves, a poignant farewell with a promise for the future.
