Seen as the screen’s first story of humanity’s quest into space, it follows astronauts launched aboard Rocketship X‑M to reach the moon. A malfunction and fuel miscalculations divert them to Mars, where they find ruins of an advanced civilization. Scientists conclude an atomic war destroyed Martians, leaving survivors in a caveman‑like state.
