Road to Zanzibar

The story begins with Chuck Reardon, a charming con artist, engaging the audience at a circus as he sings 'You Lucky People, You.' His lively performance as a sideshow barker sets the tone for the adventurous escapades that follow.

Chuck's partner, Hubert 'Fearless' Frazier, pulls off a daring stunt as a human cannonball in the circus. However, the act takes a mischievous turn when he substitutes a dummy and escapes to a hidden compartment, showcasing their con artist ingenuity.

During their act, an explosive prop unexpectedly ignites the circus tent. With flames spreading, Chuck and Fearless make a hasty and chaotic escape to Africa, narrowly avoiding disaster amidst the smoke.

Their journey takes the duo to an exquisite restaurant where they enjoy champagne courtesy of diamond magnate Charles Kimble. Under his charm, Chuck is lured into the idea of buying rights to a diamond mine, catching the eye of adventure yet again.

Chuck realizes too late that the diamond deal is a scam orchestrated by Kimble, causing friction between him and Fearless. This revelation highlights the precarious balance of their friendship amidst the pursuit of conning fortunes.

Later that evening, Fearless returns triumphantly with cash, claiming to have sold the mine to Monsieur LeBec. Instead of pursuing the mine inspection, the duo cleverly ducks out and boards a ship deeper into Africa, plotting their next moves.

Stranded and penniless in Africa, Chuck and Fearless encounter Julia Quimby, who proposes a daring mission to rescue her friend, Donna LaTour, from a slave auction. Unbeknownst to them, Julia has her own hidden agenda and motives.

Chuck and Fearless unwittingly become part of Julia and Donna's con to get closer to Donna's wealthy boyfriend. This twist in the narrative initiates a competition for affections between Chuck and Fearless, as they both find themselves drawn to Donna.
