Stevie, out of a Scottish prison, gets a job on a London construction site with conditions where workers use false names to avoid immigration checks and benefit rules. Co‑workers help him find squat housing on a council estate, where he meets Susan, an Irish woman aspiring to be a professional singer, and their lives intertwine in the gritty site.
