Soo‑jin’s frantic visions are not random delusions – they are fragmented memories of a life she has been trying to flee. As the pieces fall together, we learn that the man who called himself “Ji‑hoon” in the opening scenes is not her husband at all, but her adoptive older brother Kim Sun‑woo. The real Ji‑hoon is an aggressive, gambling‑addicted spouse who has driven Soo‑jin to plan an escape to Canada, dreaming of a fresh start by the Vermilion Lake she sees in an old photograph.

Kim Sun‑woo has been silently protecting her all along. The first flash she experiences – a little girl about to be hit by a car – is the moment he saved her from that very accident, introducing himself later as a child named Sun‑woo. When their abusive father, Kim Tae‑jun, threatened to force her into a bar, Sun‑woo killed him and hid the body in a suitcase, the same suitcase she later “remembers” being packed. The police eventually find the corpse, confirming his crime.

Later, Ji‑hoon’s debt‑riddled business collapses, and desperate gangsters press him for money. He murders a gangster, a crime Soo‑jin witnesses, and then plots to kill her to collect her insurance payout. In the struggle she strikes him with an iron rod, but he survives and returns, intent on finishing the job. Sun‑woo intervenes, killing Ji‑hoon and stuffing his body in another suitcase, while Soo‑jin, guilt‑ridden, jumps from the roof.

In the film’s climax Sun‑woo’s sacrifice is complete: he gives his life to protect his sister and finally fulfills his promise to send her to Canada. With the immigration paperwork already arranged, Soo‑jin is left standing amid the ruins of her past, free to begin anew. The title Memories of Tomorrow therefore reflects the truth of the story – Soo‑jin is not hallucinating; she is recalling the brutal events that have finally been resolved, allowing her to walk toward a future unburdened by the violence that once held her.
