Thirteen-year-old Jeff Matthews moves to the small town of Ludlow, Maine, with his father, Chase. This transition comes after a tragic loss, as Jeff grapples with the memory of his deceased mother, Renee, which looms over his new life.

In Ludlow, Jeff crosses paths with Clyde Parker, a self-proclaimed bully who captivates him with tales of the notorious Creed family. This marks the beginning of Jeff's unsettling journey into the town's dark folklore, particularly the ominous Mi'kmaq burial ground.

Sheriff Gus Gilbert exhibits his harsher side when he brutally shoots Drew’s dog, Zowie. The incident devastates Drew, who then implores Jeff to help him restore Zowie to life using the mysterious powers of the burial ground.

In a desperate bid to save Zowie, Jeff and Drew venture to the burial ground, resulting in the dog's miraculous resurrection. However, Zowie emerges transformed, taking on a sinister demeanor that foreshadows impending doom.

Chase, concerned about Zowie's unusual behavior, conducts blood tests and discovers that Zowie's blood aligns with that of a deceased animal. This revelation throws the Matthews family into a state of dread as they contemplate the implications of Zowie's return.

As Halloween approaches, Jeff and Drew gather with friends at the local Pet Sematary to share ghost stories. Their fun is abruptly interrupted when Sheriff Gus catches them, leading to a violent confrontation with Drew.

During the confrontation, Zowie appears as a terrifying figure, ultimately attacking Sheriff Gus. This encounter leads to Gus's burial at the Mi'kmaq ground, marking a significant turn in the unfolding horror.

Sheriff Gus comes back from the dead, transformed into a horrifying version of himself. Initially, he seems to improve his treatment of Drew, but this façade soon crumbles, revealing a sadistic side while terror reigns in Ludlow.

With Gus now hunting Drew and Zowie unleashed from confinement, chaos ensues in Ludlow. The town faces a wave of terror marked by Zowie's violent outbursts and frightening encounters with Clyde.

In a horrific turn of events, Drew and his mother face a tragic accident that claims their lives. The loss drives Jeff into a state of despair, prompting him to attempt to resurrect his mother using the burial grounds' forbidden powers.

Renee returns from the dead, filled with a vengeful spirit that terrifies Jeff. As the situation escalates, the now-undead Clyde joins her, creating a terrifying duo hellbent on destruction.

With flames engulfing their home, Jeff faces off against Clyde and his mother. He must navigate through the chaos and smoke to escape with his father, culminating in a desperate flight from the burning horror that surrounds them.
