Valerio and his young son, Carlo, are living in the attic after being evicted from their apartment. To try and return to their former home, they scare new tenants by pretending to be ghosts. Carlo views this as a game, shielding him from their difficult circumstances and the absence of his mother. Their tactic proves successful until Myriam and her daughter Emma arrive, escaping an abusive relationship and seemingly unafraid of the supposed supernatural presence.
