Based on Simon Garfield’s best‑selling book, the film dramatizes four diaries from Britain’s “lost decade” (1945‑1955). Garfield selected expressive diarists to show how the nation coped after the war and how attitudes have shifted over six decades. The stories portray a gay man’s secret life, a single woman seeking independence, and a housewife confronting her husband’s unwelcome return.
