On May 8 1945, Major Maxim Prokhorov of the Soviet NKVD arrives on a remote northern island inhabited by eleven people: five young women, five toddlers and Captain Karp Nichiporuk. The women were exiled from German‑occupied territories and their children are fathered by occupiers. Prokhorov’s presence disrupts their fragile routine as he orders a “clean‑up” of the island and nearby settlements and plans a sabotage training camp. The following night the women learn of Germany’s surrender, sparking hope of forgiveness, a return home and a chance to celebrate Victory.
