Zinoviy Gerdt

A mildly ironic yet thoroughly informative account of the Greek Olympiad’s origins, growth, and decline, narrated by Z. Gerdt. The film richly details ancient history, drawing visual style from classical monuments—vase paintings, stylised figures, decorative motifs, even simulated cracks. It features extensive full‑scale recreations, notably Yuriy Norshtein’s photographs of the Pergamon altar bas‑reliefs, and concludes with documentary footage of the 1980 Moscow Olympics opening ceremony.
