History

In the 17th century, the arrival of the West Indian Companies in Natal marks the beginning of a brutal period. Bernarda and her family are forced to flee the city to escape the ensuing violence and invasion. Seeking refuge at the Potengi Mill, she finds love with Rafael, the foreman’s son. Their passionate connection strengthens their resolve to endure the turbulent years and survive the conflict instigated by Jacob Rabbí, a German commander appointed by Prince John Maurice of Nassau.
