Set against the frenzy of the Comstock Lode’s Silver Stampede, the tale follows Nevada, who wins $7,000 in yellowback bills. He passes the cash to Ben Ide, who heads out to buy mining equipment. The scheming Burridge orders his henchman Powell to murder Ide and retrieve the money. Nevada discovers Ide’s body just as a posse arrives, is found with the cash, and is arrested. Burridge then urges Powell to incite the townspeople into a lynch mob against Nevada.
