Chang Siu Tai is the son of Master Chang, a bone‑setter who runs a clinic in a poor district of an unnamed Chinese city. Siu Tai assists his father, learning bone‑setting and kung fu, but gets into trouble, especially when foreigners and Chinese allies arrive to seize a statue of the Goddess of Mercy from a Buddhist temple.
