Japanese troops land in Chinese territory and advance on a village. During the assault, soldier Norimoto is killed, though the village falls and his body is recovered and buried. In the next two days the force moves inland; soldiers Naito and Takahashi are wounded, stay behind to heal, but vow to rejoin their comrades, who keep marching forward.
