Morbius

At a hospital in Greece, 10-year-old Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) welcomes his surrogate brother Lucien, whom he renames Milo (Matt Smith); they quickly bond over their shared struggle with a blood disease stemming from missing DNA. Both siblings rely heavily on crutches for mobility. Dr. Emil Nicholas (Jared Harris), a kind mentor and father figure, oversees the facility where Michael and Milo are being cared for. He arranges for Morbius to attend a prestigious medical school for gifted students in New York, taking the opportunity to pursue his aspirations while ensuring Milo remains supported.

The brothers endure a rigorous routine involving blood transfusions three times a day to stay alive until a remedy is discovered. Morbius vows that he will find a cure for their affliction, promising Milo a brighter future. Fast forward 25 years, and Morbius declines a Nobel Prize, feeling that the artificial blood he developed, which has saved more lives than penicillin, stems from a flawed experiment and not a worthy endeavor.

Upon discovering that Morbius has secretly captured several vampire bats from Costa Rica, his colleague Martine Bancroft (Adria Arjona) learns of his plan to splice their genes with his own to find a cure. These bats, known for their blood-draining abilities, contain special anti-coagulants that Morbius hopes to replicate in himself. His trials show promise when he initially tests the DNA splicing on mice. After informing Milo of his underground experiment, Morbius receives financial backing from him, allowing them to prepare a private mercenary vessel in international waters.

As the experimental treatment progresses, it takes a dark turn: Morbius transforms into a vampire, succumbing to his bloodlust and killing the crew in self-defense. Martine witnesses the horrifying transformation, which is momentarily tempered by her presence, but she soon becomes unconscious during the chaos of the attack. After regaining his senses, a guilt-stricken Morbius erases all evidence of his actions before fleeing with the remaining vials of his serum.

Upon returning to New York, Morbius grapples with his newfound superhuman abilities, which include extraordinary strength, speed, reflexes, and echolocation, with the vampire bats recognizing him as one of their own. In an effort to curb his escalating bloodlust, he relies on his artificial blood, yet its effectiveness is dwindling rapidly—now only stabilizing him for about six hours.

Meanwhile, FBI agents Simon Stroud (Tyrese Gibson) and Al Rodriguez (Al Madrigal) begin investigating a series of grisly murders linked to Morbius, noting his sudden vitality and the coincidences surrounding his research. Milo’s frustration grows as he discovers Morbius has found a cure but is unwilling to share it with him. Driven by desperation, Milo seeks the blood of his brother to alleviate his own condition.

While checking on a recovering Martine, Morbius is horrified to find a nurse dead and severely drained of blood. Fearing he’s responsible, he tries to escape but is captured by Stroud. Realizing the artificial blood will soon stop working, he becomes increasingly anxious. During his imprisonment, Milo visits him, offering to use his wealth to secure Morbius’ release.

To his horror, Morbius learns that Milo has taken the cure for himself and killed the nurse in a blood frenzy. The two brothers’ destinies collide as Morbius escapes prison to confront Milo, who has fully embraced his monstrous identity. As the conflict between them escalates, Morbius discovers he can also fly, adding another layer to their confrontation.

Milo begins tracking down Martine, anticipating Morbius’ desire to see her. Meanwhile, Morbius, now on a tight timeline of stability after his last dose, develops an antidote for vampirism, intending to use it on both himself and Milo. As he and Martine grow closer, the tension mounts—especially as Stroud and Rodriguez publicize video evidence of Milo’s villainous behavior.

As the finale approaches, heartbreaking losses occur. Milo, consumed by rage and jealousy, fatally injures Dr. Nicholas. Morbius arrives too late to save him, and in a tragic turn of events, he also loses Martine, who dies in his arms after sharing a final kiss and ingesting some of his blood. This cataclysmic moment forces Morbius to fully embrace his vampire identity as he confronts Milo, unleashing a legion of bats to subdue him and administer the antidote.

In a poignant farewell, Milo dies peacefully while Morbius, burdened by grief, takes to the skies with the bats, now a fugitive from the authorities. Unbeknownst to him, Martine, having absorbed Morbius’ blood, awakens with glowing red eyes, hinting at her emerging transformation.

In the mid-credits scenes, Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) finds himself inexplicably transported to Morbius’ universe. Upon realizing the connection to Spider-Man, he approaches the fugitive Morbius with a proposition to form a team.
