Kathy Morrison, mother of three and director of a “color‑blind” adoption program, wants another biological child. Her husband Pete, head coach of the Phoenix Suns, learns he’s infertile. They consider adopting Frederic “Freddie” Wilcox, a Black boy Pete initially resists. Freddie’s arrival shakes their neighborhood, school and family. To broaden their family, Kathy also adopts two more children—a half‑Vietnamese war‑traumatized girl, Quan Tran, and a Hopi boy, Joe. The blended family must learn to live together.
