In the Great War’s trenches, an artillery barrage opens the story. Bayoneted Simon (Guillaume Depardieu) is sent to a hospital, joining other wounded men. There he meets teacher Marthe (Clotilde Courau), who lives with the physician (Bernard Giraudeau). Their meeting becomes a romance amid war’s horror. Shot by Kevin Jewison, son of Norman Jewison.
