Blending nostalgia, architecture, pop culture, economics and politics, the documentary examines the enclosed shopping center as North America’s most profitable suburban hub—serving consumers as a communal, ceremonial space while letting retailers mix idealism and greed. It combines footage of mall history with visits to malls in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Japan, and interviews architects and shoppers.
