Loïc, a chestnut seller, maintains a relationship with a mistress eager for a child. He refuses to tell her he contracted mumps later in life, offering other excuses instead. When he meets Claire, an old girlfriend who now has a young son, he is struck by the boy’s strong resemblance to himself and becomes convinced he is the child’s father.
